For all you faith-seekers who want to think deeply about theology and faith
Fasting from Certainty
I used to love certainty. I liked having my ducks in a row.
However, after five years of various jobs, various hours, and a seminary degree to boot, I’ve become accustomed to living within a certain degree of uncertainty.
Fasting from Control
Fasting from control means trusting in God to be enough to take care of me—to know my needs (my true needs beneath the anxiety) and to meet them in just the right way.
Fasting from Self-Sufficiency
My husband jokes that my favourite words are, “Don’t tell me what to do.”
Unfortunately, it’s true.
Fasting from Materialism
Fasting is a reset. It stops habits from spiralling out of control—not simply for the sake of stopping the habit, but for reminding ourselves that we are more than our habit.
Why Do We Pray Anyway?
If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent much of your life wondering whether prayer “works” and why we Christians are encouraged to pray when God Almighty is omniscient and knows everything before it happens anyway.
We’ve got the idea of prayer all wrong, and it has led us to feel abandoned by God.
