Of all the classic friendships in literature, the bond between Meriadoc (Merry) Brandybuck and Peregrin (Pippin) Took is one of my favourites. Often viewed as the ‘comic relief’ of The Lord of the Rings, Merry and Pippin are much more than meets the eye.
